In a recent interview, Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr, opened up about his double dismissal from The Who, leaving him with more questions than answers. It all started in April 2025 when the band announced they were letting him go. Rumors swirled, suggesting singer Roger Daltrey made the call after a London concert where his vocals were drowned out by Starkey's powerful drumming.
But here's where it gets controversial: Pete Townshend, the band's guitarist, later claimed the decision was reversed. However, Starkey was soon informed of his dismissal once again. This drama not only left him confused but also cost him a chance to join Oasis on their reunion tour.
In a recent interview with Q1043 New York, Starkey shared his perspective. "I'd like to think we remained friends," he said. "I spoke to Roger recently, and we've never been enemies." He continued, "I think they wanted a change, but they kept changing their minds. It was a confusing situation, and I believe they're still confused too."
Starkey further emphasized that he didn't want to sour nearly three decades of collaboration with The Who. "I've worked with Roger on and off since I was 17, and with John Entwistle even before that. I was with The Who for 29 years, and I wouldn't let this affect our friendship. It's just band business."
