Trident Gym: Liverpool's Newest Fitness Hub with a Twist (2026)

A unique chain of gyms has chosen to open its first northern site in Liverpool. Trident Gym started in the south-west of England, with locations in Plymouth, Weston-Super-Mare, and Bridgewater.

Its gyms focus on providing the usual features of commercial gyms as well as other offerings, such as ice baths and sun beds. Trident has described its new site, based on Speke Road in Garston, as “more than just a gym - it’s a high performance, results-driven space built for lifters, fighters, fitness fanatics, and anyone ready to level up”.

Trident Gym Liverpool will include the expected strength machines and weights, as well as a sauna to “aid recovery and relaxation” and a cryotherapy chamber for “next-level recovery and performance”.

The gym will also host live DJ events, monthly challenges and exclusive member experiences. It will be based in a building on the Matchworks estate, owned by property developer Urban Splash.

Trident Gym Liverpool will be open 24/7. Membership prices start from £35 a month, eligible at off-peak times (5am-3pm) and students. Day and weekly passes are also available.

The gym opened today with live DJs, free day passes, free Redbull drinks and lifting competitions.

Craig Stephens, owner of Trident, said: “We’re thrilled to be opening our first North West gym and bringing the Trident brand to Liverpool.

“Matchworks is a brilliant location, with an established business community and strong transport links. We can’t wait to welcome local people through our doors.”

Nicky Harries, commercial manager at Urban Splash, said: “The health and wellness sector is continuing to grow, and we’re pleased to support that growth by providing well-designed, adaptable spaces where these businesses – and their communities – can thrive.”

The building Trident Gym will be based in was previously home to two other gyms. Fit4Free was based there from 2011 to 2017 before 24/7 Fitness replaced it.

The chain gym establishment has a number of locations across the UK, including in Birmingham, York, and Portsmouth. However, the Merseyside branch closed at the start of this year.

A spokesperson told the ECHO it was a “regretful announcement” the company had to make. They added: “This difficult decision stems from a combination of factors. The financial impact of COVID-19, significantly increased utility costs, and membership numbers and revenue not rebounding to pre-COVID levels.

"These challenges have led to substantial financial strain, preventing us from reaching a feasible agreement with our landlord. Consequently, we have had no choice but to liquidate the company.

"We deeply appreciate the member’s patronage at 24/7 Fitness Speke. Serving our wonderful community has been a privilege, and it is with heavy hearts that we must cease operations. Should anyone have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.

"We would once again like to thank the members for all of the support and membership at 24/7 Fitness Speke. We wish them all the best in their future fitness endeavours.”
