Red Wings Dominate Jets 5-1! Compher & Raymond Lead the Charge! (2026)

The Red Wings' Third-Period Outburst Sends Them to a 5-1 Victory in Winnipeg

The cold weather outside didn't dampen the Wings' spirits as they heated up inside the Canada Life Centre. With a frigid temperature outside, the Wings' performance inside was anything but chilly.

J.T. Compher and Lucas Raymond scored early in the third period to break the tie, and Alex DeBrincat (empty net) and Marco Kasper added late goals, leading the Wings to a 5-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets.

This win propelled the Wings (32-16-5, 69 points) to the top of the Atlantic Division, surpassing Tampa Bay (68 points). The Wings have been on a roll, winning eight of their last 10 games (8-1-1) and earning five of six points on a challenging three-game road trip through Toronto, Minnesota, and Winnipeg.

Compher's goal at 1 minute, 43 seconds of the third period broke the 1-1 tie. James van Riemsdyk led the rush, passing to Emmitt Finnie, who directed the puck to Compher, knocking it past goaltender Connor Hellebuyck for his eighth goal.

Raymond added his 18th goal at 8:11, extending the Wings' lead to 3-1. Raymond's shot deflected off the bar and into the net, showcasing his precision.

The final score was sealed by DeBrincat's empty-net goal, his 27th, and Kasper's fifth goal, 32 seconds later. Patrick Kane assisted on DeBrincat's goal, bringing him within one point (1,373) of Mike Modano's record for most points by a U.S.-born player (1,374).

Goaltender John Gibson earned his 17th win in the last 19 games. Compher and Cole Koepke scored in the second period, with Koepke giving the Jets an early 1-0 lead.

However, the Wings responded with Compher's seventh goal, tying the game 1-1. Kane appeared to be getting a secondary assist, but Mark Scheifele briefly gained possession before Compher scored near the crease.

The Wings faced a setback with the absence of defenseman Simon Edvinsson (lower body), who missed his second consecutive game. Coach Todd McLellan mentioned that Edvinsson will be examined upon the team's return to Detroit, and a decision on his status will be made.

The Wings' victory in Winnipeg showcased their resilience and teamwork, leaving them in a strong position in the Atlantic Division.
