Get ready for a heartwarming tale as Apple presents its Chinese New Year film, 'Glad I Met You,' a masterpiece crafted by the talented Bai Xue and brought to life by TBWA\Media Arts Lab in Shanghai. This annual tradition is a celebration of family and connection, and this year's offering is a unique blend of live-action and stop-motion animation, all captured using the impressive iPhone 17 Pro.
The story unfolds with Lin Wei, our protagonist, and a charming, talkative dog named Little White. Together, they embark on a journey filled with laughter and heartfelt moments, teaching us about the beauty of finding family in unexpected places.
"The magic happens when Little White runs towards Lin Wei," reveals Bai Xue. "By using slow motion, we extend that moment, amplifying the emotional impact. It's a powerful scene."
Hao Shuai, the lead animal coordinator, adds, "Large cameras can be a distraction for animals, but the iPhone's compact size made our job so much easier. It's an animal trainer's dream!"
The attention to detail in this film is remarkable. Each character was meticulously crafted with custom internal armatures, designed to withstand countless micro-movements. And the mouth expressions? Over 20 unique ones for each character, 3D printed, hand-painted, and carefully swapped frame by frame to match the voice performances of talented Chinese actors.
Ege Soyuer, creative director at BUCK, shares, "Everything you see in the stop-motion portion is a labor of love, built by hand. It's a reminder that magic exists in the real world, on those miniature sets, moved ever so slightly by dedicated artists."
So, as we celebrate Chinese New Year, let's reflect on the power of family and the joy of unexpected connections. And remember, sometimes the most magical moments are captured with the smallest of devices.
What do you think? Is this film a heartwarming celebration or a clever marketing move? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
